Why Preschool Should Be Discouraged

Preschool is an educational system that provides early childhood education to kids before enrollment into primary school. Although some people have advocated many advantages of preschooling, we still notice that the system has its defects. Advocates of this claim that it is viable because its curriculum is organized, and it promotes healthy and all-round education through simple methods of teaching, among others. However, in this article, we present some of the issues that should discourage anyone from choosing to preschool his/her kids.

Lack of provision for challenged learners

Not all preschool facilities have provisions for kids with developmental delays. If such kids are taken to a preschool center, they may find it difficult, if not impossible, to adapt to the environment. For them, the style and methods of school activities may be burdensome because of their slow

cognitive and physical development. Due to the lack of suitable facilities to cater for this condition, choosing to preschool a child in such a condition will lead to more harmful outcomes including making the child feel alienated. Special children or struggling learners will not find preschooling helpful.

Some preschool centres may be unnecessarily focused on academic content.

In a conventional preschool system, the focus is not on academics but on minor activities such as games, songs, storytelling, and playtimes that will just keep the kids engaged. However, some preschool centres usually become unduly academic to the extent that they become no different from the first grade/primary school level. Since the children are still tender and are still learning basic skills, it is not appropriate for them to be stretched mentally. Serious academic work should be left for the pry grade and not the preschool period. Therefore, choosing to send your kid to a preschool could be detrimental in this regard.

Preschool requires huge financing

Because of the special requirements at this stage, preschool is exorbitant. Many centres have high fees. Apart from the fees charged by the institution, there are also other expenses including the cost of regular feeding, transportation, playthings, and so on. The schedule of the parents may also become demanding. For instance, a mother preschooling her child will have to make provisions for breakfast and lunch since the facility may not make such provisions. The amount of time spent in dropping off and picking up your kid should also be thought of. In the event of a bad traffic situation, the a at may find this challenging. The money, time, and energy expended in this system of education can be reserved for primary education since the absence of it does not mean that the child will necessarily do poorly in the future.

The medical dangers that may attend it should be considered

The health of children could be fragile. And it is important to always keep them in a safe environment. Most preschool facilities are packed with many kids playing with one another at very close range. In this situation, there is a very likely possibility of a child contracting diseases from other children. Hence, it could be difficult to control the spread of diseases. In an attempt to be careful in this regard, the staff, caregivers, or facilitator may neglect certain children. And when a child feels lonely, his or her ability to learn is dampened.

Lack of proper supervision

Most preschools are crowded with children. The teacher-pupil ratio is worrisome. This means that the venue is bound to be messy at times since few teachers are handling many children. The lack of adequate number of staff makes it difficult for many preschools to be efficient when it comes to supervision. Consequently, kids may suffer from unpleasant occurrences during their play sessions.

The psychological implications of separating a child from his/her parents

Children love the care and the comfort of their parents, especially at a tender age. And children should enjoy the loving care of their parents when they are very young. It helps them to develop confidence in themselves and their parents’ love. It also creates opportunities for family bonding with the kids. But having to send children to preschool at an early age could affect them psychologically.
