Brief Historical Background

Ibiono Ibom, a focal point in Eastern Ibibio territories, holds a pivotal role in Ibibio history. Its significance harks back to the movement for Ibibio ethnicity creation, where it stood independently, symbolizing the strength inherent in the Ibibio spirit.

The day’s journey began with a respectful visit to His Royal Majesty Edidem (Dr.) Okuku Ime Udousoro Inyang, the Paramount Ruler of Ibiono Ibom. Led by Ntisong Pius J Okon, Ntisong IV, the delegation acknowledged the paramount ruler’s vital role in the history and development of Ibiono Ibom.

Ntisong IV’s Inspirational Address: Awakening the Ibiono Giant Eagle

Esteemed sons and daughters of Ibiono Ibom, I extend my highest regards to you all, with special appreciation to the Paramount Ruler, HRM Edidem Okuku (Dr.) Ime Udousoro Inyang, for his unwavering support. The unity and passion displayed in Ibiono Ibom are truly commendable.

Today, as we stand on this historic ground, I am honored to address the entirety of Ibibio sons and daughters, echoing the essence of our collective journey. The tour across all 18 Local Government Areas of Ibibio is not merely a physical endeavor but a symbolic awakening of the giant eagle within us. It aims to reignite the Ibibio spirit of Ima-Mboho-Eduek, reminiscent of the monumental day on November 28, 1981, at U. J. Ediene Stadium, Calabar.

In relaunching Esop at the grassroots, our goal is to facilitate easy participation, create awareness, and foster Eduekism, signifying prosperity for our people. Our economic and human capital development programs are fundamentally grassroots-oriented, emphasizing applied education, commerce through cooperative societies, and agro-based industries, all tailored to uplift rural communities.

I urge you to recognize that each chapter is a vehicle to actualize these programs, propelling our people to the next economic level. While Esop has played a pivotal role in sustaining the Ibibio people during calm waters, today we face turbulent waves. Together, we can overcome these challenges by bidding farewell to the “Nsoo Imbegheism” attitude. It is time to unite, involve ourselves in organized structures, and mobilize massively to confront both impending and future challenges as one resilient people.

Today, you are not only invited but urged to join the movement called Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio or any other significant Ibibio-oriented organization. Let us reposition ourselves, stand firm against the waves, and rewrite our narratives for a brighter future.

Thank you, and may the Ibibio spirit guide us on this transformative journey.
