EMBRACING UNITY AND TRADITION: Inauguration of Uruan LG Chapter of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio

In a remarkable display of unity, tradition, and cultural preservation, the Ntisong Ibibio IV, Ntisong Pius J Okon, and his distinguished entourage embarked on a historic journey to Uruan Local Government. The purpose of this visit was to inaugurate the Uruan Local Government Chapter of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio, and it was nothing short of extraordinary.

The event was graced by notable personalities, capturing the likes of the Secretary of the council, Mkpisong (Dr.) Tony Okpon, and other esteemed cabinet members. The presence of such esteemed individuals underscored the significance of this cultural and community milestone.

The event was chaired by Mr. Michael Bush, the Director General of Bush House Nigeria, who delivered an inspiring exhortation speech. He celebrated the resilience and determination of the Ibibio people, acknowledging them as the fourth ethnic group in the country and the foremost ethnicity in Akwa Ibom State. Mr. Bush’s commitment was evident as he pledged funds to support the translation of other languages into Ibibio and called for the wide-reaching promotion of Ibibio culture through his Media House (Bush House Nigeria).

A CALL FOR UNITY AND SUPPORT:

Ntisong Ibibio IV, NTISONG PIUS J OKON, delivered an encouraging speech that resonated deeply with the Uruan community. He invoked the timeless wisdom found in the Bible, reminding all Ibibio sons and daughters to “do unto others what you would want others to do unto you.” This message of unity and mutual respect was delivered with a reference to the biblical verse, emphasizing the importance of love and collaboration among the Ibibio people.

As Ntisong Ibibio IV recapped the rich history and originality of the Ibibio community, he concluded his exhortation with a heartwarming announcement of grant support for cooperatives in Uruan Local Government, furthering the cause of community development and progress.

The event was graced by the presence of Clan Heads, Village Heads, and Family Heads, who stood as custodians of tradition and culture. Chief Ette Nnyin Okon Edet Effiong, representing the heads, delivered remarks that reflected the collective spirit of unity and cultural pride.

The Clan Head of Central Uruan, His Royal Highness – Edidem Anthony Ekpe Anthony, also graced the occasion with his dignified presence.

The highlight of the event was the official inauguration of the Uruan Local Government Chapter of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio. Elected members took their oaths of office with the Constitution of the Esop presented alongside. The event culminated in the appointment of Ukai Patrick Etim as the Chairman of the Uruan chapter.

The cultural heritage of Uruan was on full display, featuring traditional dances and captivating Masquerade plays, including Ekpe Uruan Inyang Atakpo, which added a vibrant and spirited element to the festivities.

Notably, the event witnessed the promotion of titles of members from their former titles in Esop to Mkpisong, Ukai, Ye Atauko, highlighting the importance of recognizing and celebrating achievements within the community.

The historic inauguration took place at the Idu Uruan Council Secretariat, symbolizing the official commencement of the Uruan Local Government Chapter of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio.

Dignitaries of high profile in government were present, serving as members of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio and affirming the unison between traditional values and governance.

The inauguration of the Uruan Local Government Chapter of Akwa Esop Imaisong Ibibio was a testament to the enduring strength of cultural preservation, unity, and community development. It marked a significant step in the journey of the Ibibio people to celebrate their heritage and promote a brighter future for generations to come.
