Nigerian monarch shot dead inside the palace

The Nigerian police have confirmed that suspected Biafran separatists have shot and killed the traditional ruler of Obudi Agwa, Eze Ignatius Asor, and two of his aides.

The attack took place at the monarch‘s palace in Oguta Local Government Area of Imo state.

The gunmen reportedly posed as emergency responders before opening fire on the monarch and his aides.

It is not yet clear why the traditional ruler was targeted. The secessionist group, the Indigenous People of Biafra, has not yet commented on the attack.

The group is campaigning for a breakaway state of Biafra in the southeast of the country.
