Ogun: Man beats wife to death over school ownership

A 45yearold man, Segun Omotosho, has been arrested by the police for beating his wife, Olubukola Omotosho, to death in Abeokuta, Ogun State. According to the police, the man beat the woman to death over her refusal to allow him to take over a private school belonging to her.

Segun Omotosho was arrested on Sunday by the Ogun State Police Command, following a complaint lodged on November 14 by the deceaseds elder sister. According to the elder sister, the 42-year-old Olubukola had been beaten and seriously injured by her husband, who then took her to the Federal Medical Centre in Idi-Aba Abeokuta for medical attention but she died while receiving treatment.

“Unknown to the husband, the deceased had sent a voice note to her family members, informing them that her husband has used a padlock to hit her on the head while beating her, and that if she died, they should be aware that it was her husband that killed her,” the police spokesperson, Abimbola Oyeyemi, told newsmen on Monday.

According to the report, the husband fled immediately after the voice note was played to him, realizing that his evil deed had been exposed. The suspect who fled to Akinseku village, Abeokuta was hibernated and promptly apprehended.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that their incessant quarrel was because the deceased built a private school in the name of herself and the husband, but the husband who is a carpenter had wanted to take over the control of the school but the deceased who was an NCE graduate refused,” Oyeyemi said.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole has directed that the suspect be taken to the Homicide section of the State CIID for further investigation and prosecution.
