Barcelona banned from signing new players in January window

Barcelona banned from signing new players in January window.

Joan Laporta, the Barcelona president has admitted that the club may not be able to sign any players during the January transfer window due to LaLiga’s financial fair play rules.

Laporta said the club’s accounts are “healthy” again, with an expected income this season of €1.23billion and a budgeted profit of €274 million.

He said the club had to make some tough decisions economically to save it from ruin, but now it is on the road to recovery.

“But despite that, according to the rules of financial fair play of the Spanish league, we cannot sign,” Laporta told Spanish news agency EFE.

According to him, they were trying to convince LaLiga “to be more flexible”.

Barcelona has sold 25% of their domestic television rights and a 49% stake in Barca Studios for over700 million.

This allowed Barcelona to spend over150million on Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde.
